Try to imagine
my life of hideous pain
life-obliterating nerve pain
wresting violating agony
depriving me of
my very essence.

Try to imagine
pain so excruciating
I could not lie down
for two entire years
sleep-deprived and
standing all night long
many nights standing . . .
the only position
I could endure . . .

but not without
crying for hours . . .
sobbing all night long
hundreds of nights
wrenching sobs all night
from searing hot pain.

Try to imagine
pain so ferocious and
my psyche so destroyed
by this physical torture
this reality was worse
than my years of
childhood rape.

Try to imagine
minute by minute
month by month
year after year after year
being…
