Remember That Rogue July

surfing magnolia beach . . .

My breath still goes slack
my maelstrom calms . . . oddly
seabirds stop pecking my brain
waves roar our surge again
I’m craving a frothy uprush
memories of magnolia
still so ripe . . . so visceral
beckoning a tender pluck
still you press the panting
right out of my chest.
