Why not just slice me up and fry me?
Our freedom quest persists to stymie
liberty goes the distance
despite despotic resistance
icons dissed, but our spirit is still shiny.

We shout to the malcontents: gnaw on it!
erect barriers and we put a buzz saw on it
a wood chipper to an old bone
resolute desk is nobody’s throne
hope is back and everyone must draw on it!

Who cares if political illusions are fleeting?
Beats the hell out of democracy deleting!
Let’s just get this done
disarm the suicide gun
dine at a compromise table sans cheating.

Kick meddling officials out of our affairs
not in the courts, put The Man back upstairs
not razing the health
of our commonwealth
won’t be ideal, but more will get fair shares.

At the end of my life of political apathy
I’ve no integrity to tether my ardent plea
no political bent?
too ambivalent?
suspend the mind quibble and vote: democracy!
